Information Processing Unit

This scientific and technical service supports projects at the Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences that require the creation and development of textual corpora, the analysis and/or processing of textual or multimodal content, the creation and development of image databases, and the creation, adaptation, or improvement of terminological resources whether multilingual or in Spanish. It also supports research projects related to metric studies of scientific information and communication.

The Unit is also the Collection Centre for the Latindex information system in Spain. The overall mission of this system is to disseminate, make accessible, and improve the quality of academic journals published mainly in Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Portugal. The Unit constantly updates the data on Spanish journals in the system. It also provides ongoing advice to publishers in order to strengthen and improve the quality and impact of their scientific publications.

The services provided as the Latindex Collection Center in Spain, data maintenance in the system, and advice to scientific journal publishers are provided free of charge. Potential users of Latindex are all those who use, exchange, and generate scientific information: researchers, teachers, students, publishers, librarians, and information specialists. In the field of scientific terminology, the Unit collaborates with the Spanish Association of Terminology (AETER) by participating in the TERESIA project, which aims to make high-quality terminology resources freely available.
