Biografía

Elvira Martín Contreras (PhD, UCM 2000; Premio Extraordinario) es Investigadora Científica en el ILC (CCHS-CSIC). Ha disfrutado de diferentes estancias pre y postdoctorales en centros de prestigio en Israel, Inglaterra y Austria financiadas por distintas entidades nacionales e internacionales. Ha sido Visiting Scholar en Faculty of Oriental Studies, Cambridge, UK, (noviembre 2000-julio 2002); British Academy Visiting Fellow (2006); Visiting Fellow en the School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures, Universidad de Manchester y Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Jewish Studies, University of Manchester, UK (octubre-noviembre 2006). En 2006 obtuvo una British Academy Visiting Fellowship Award for early-career scholars. 

Sus líneas de investigación se han centrado en el estudio de la Biblia hebrea. Por un lado, de las reglas hermenéuticas empleadas por los rabinos para interpretarla en el periodo del judaísmo clásico y, por otro, el análisis y estudio de las anotaciones que se encuentran en los márgenes de la mayoría de los manuscritos bíblicos hebreos medievales y, a partir de ellas, estudiar el proceso de transmisión y recepción del texto bíblico hebreo. 

Actualmente es Investigadora Principal del proyecto “Understanding the Paratexts of the Hebrew Bible”, financiado por la Templeton Religious Trust, y co-Investigadora Principal del proyecto “Techniques for Preserving God's Word in Syriac, Hebrew, and Arabic Sacred Texts” financiado por la Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Ha sido también Investigadora Principal de cuatro proyectos nacionales y miembro del equipo de investigación de nueve proyectos del Plan Nacional I+D+i.

En cuanto a la actividad formativa, ha organizado y enseñado diferentes cursos de postgrado en el CSIC, impartido un curso de doctorado desde el año 2003 hasta el 2008 en el Instituto de Ciencias de las Religiones, y participado en el máster/doctorado “Estudios para la igualdad de género en Ciencias Humanas, Sociales y Jurídicas” Módulo VI: “Representaciones culturales de los estereotipos de género”. Desde 2017 a 2020 he impartido el taller-seminario “El judaísmo clásico ante el texto bíblico: técnicas de interpretación de los rabinos” dentro del Master “Culturas árabe y hebrea: al-Andalus y mundo árabe contemporáneo” (UGR). Ha codirigido una tesis interdisciplinar sobre los principios exegéticos de la literatura rabínica desde la hermenéutica filosófica, supervisado dos trabajos para la obtención del DEA y ha sido tutora de una beca de introducción a la investigación JAE-Intro (CSIC), en 2014.

A la actividad investigadora hay que añadir su participación en Grupos de investigación, en consejos asesores, comités de redacción, comités científicos, y su labor como evaluadora y en gestión de I+D. Es miembro de la Plataforma Temática Interdisciplinar 'Historia Social y Cultural del Mediterráneo. Contextos locales y dinámicas globales' (MEDhis) del CSIC, del grupo de investigación “Historia cultural del Mediterráneo” ILC-CSIC, y del Network for the Study of Glossing.

Ha sido evaluadora para: el Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO) en 2016, 2019 y 2022; la Israel Science Foundation, Personal Research Grant (2019); la Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften, Academies' Programm 2018 (2016); la Agencia Nacional de Evaluación y Prospectiva (ANEP), 2015, 2018.

Es miembro del Consejo de Redacción de la revista Sefarad. Revista de Estudios Hebraicos y Sefardíes (2018-) y de la revista Miscelánea de Estudios Árabes y Hebraicos (2024-). Ha sido también miembro del Consejo Asesor de esta revista (2016-2023), y fue Secretaria y miembro del Consejo de Redacción de la colección Textos y Estudios Cardenal Cisneros, CSIC (2004-2016).

Es la Program Unit Chair of the Section of Masoretic Studies Section at the Society of Biblical Literature (2019-) y fue miembro electo del Steering Committee of Masoretic Studies Section at the Society of Biblical Literature (2013- 2018). Es la vicepresidenta de la Asociación Española de Estudios Hebreos y Judíos (2022-) y ha sido miembro de su Junta Directiva (2018-2022). Es Jefa del Departamento de Estudios Judíos e Islámicos del Instituto de Lenguas y Culturas del Mediterráneo y del Oriente Antiguo, CSIC (2021-) y lo fue también del 2013 al 2017. Fue Investigadora responsable del grupo de investigación Estudios Bíblicos (Grupo de investigación CSIC 641404, 2012-2017).
