Geospatial information provides a unique perspective for analysing events and processes taking place on the territory, as it enables each event to be located in its geographical position. This is essential for the purposes of establishing relationships between processes and of endorsing decision-making. The new spatial information technologies provide accurate, detailed and fast information that is highly useful for assessing and managing resources. Every day, regional government bodies and companies use geospatial information to develop strategies and take decisions. Therefore, there is a clear need to generate scientific and technological knowledge in this sphere. In tune with this demand, our line of research concentrates on the application of new spatial information technologies (remote sensing and Geographical Information Systems) to the production and analysis of geospatial information for environmental assessment and management on a variety of local, regional and global scales. The principal aim is to contribute to the diagnosis and management of environmental problems, placing special emphasis on analysing the interactions of human activities with the environment.
