This research group is focused on those periods of human history that can only be investigated through an archaeological perspective due to the lack of written documents. The group aims to study the ways through which subsistence was organized across different scales, from the analysis of artefacts and sites to the use of the landscape. Particular interest is paid to the role of technology and technological change, which is considered in a diachronic frame, from human origins to the emergence of early complex societies in Late Prehistory. All these perspectives are implemented using methods and techniques typical of Natural, Materials and Computer Sciences, developed in laboratories of Archaeology that hold a strong archaeometric approach. These methodological approaches are always oriented towards historical interpretation and refer to the framework of Social Theory.
